Legendary Indian Seafood Cuisine in London’s Most Chic Quarter

Set in the heart of central London’s super chic Marylebone Village, the recently opened Trishna London is one of the most exciting developments on the UK capital’s dining scene in years.

A fine dining restaurant that specialises in the fragrantly spiced coastal cuisine of south-west India, it is the only European outpost of the original iconic Trisha restaurant in Mumbai – considered by many food critics to be one of the greatest seafood restaurants in the world.

Refined, elegant and constantly buzzing with a cosmopolitan crowd, Trishna London showcases a selection of the Mumbai restaurant’s signature dishes. These include its world-famous butter pepper garlic king crab; mussels simmered in coconut and turmeric masala; and lobster in a black pepper and garlic marinade with sea salt and lime-dressed cucumber. Also on the menu are innovative contemporary interpretations of traditional dishes from celebrated head chef Ravi Deulkar, like: squid pakora with lime zest and chilli; wild tiger prawns in mustard spice paste; and diver-caught scallops with green chilli and garlic. Ravi held a Michelin star at his previous establishment in Chelsea, south-west London.

The restaurant is open from Monday to Saturday, from 12.00 to 15.00 for lunch and 18.00 to 23.00 for dinner, and on Sundays, from 12.30 to 15.30 for lunch and 18.30 to 22.30 for dinner. It offers a grazing menu, with diners ordering a wide range of dishes to share.

Ravi travelled the Indian coast extensively in 2008 to create his innovative menu – gathering local recipes and culinary inspiration from fishing villages. In addition, he spent several months working in the kitchens of Trishna Mumbai. Some of the traditional cooking techniques he and his team use include: marinating and tandoor roasting, charcoal grilling and searing on the iron tawa griddle. He sources all seafood and crustacea from high quality, sustainable sources on the Cornish, Dorset, and Scottish coasts. Thoroughly sourced meat, poultry and game also feature on the menu.

To complement the cuisine, there is a diverse fine wine and champagne list with a strong old world focus from niche producers. A specialist selection of beers includes some exclusive Indian and European varieties. Both wine and beer are recommended to match each dish on the menu.

Ravi explains the restaurant’s unique ethos: “Trishna offers a unique take on the authentically delicious flavours of the Indian coastline in striking, yet informal, surroundings. We provide a rare combination of outstanding food and welcoming, friendly service.

“Our restaurant also happens to be in one of London’s most fashionable quarters, with a host of the capital’s best bars, luxury boutiques and hotels on our doorstep.”

From the stylishly eclectic shopping streets around Marylebone High Street, to the world renowned medical destination that is Harley Street, Marylebone Village is one of London’s greatest delights. Located minutes from both Oxford Street and Baker Street, in the heart of the city, it is home to a vast array of famous names, like Madonna and Oasis guitarist Noel Gallagher. In the past, it was where author Charles Dickens, poet Lord Byron and fictional detective Sherlock Holmes lived.

The village is packed full of designer furniture stores, independent clothes boutiques, unique specialty shops, patisseries, organic cafés, traditional grocers and superior hotels. Visitors can join the locals shopping at the farmers' market (Sundays, 10am - 2pm, Cramer Street Car park), listen to the breathtaking classical music performances at Wigmore Hall or stroll through nearby gorgeous Regent’s Park.
