The 2007 Marylebone Village Christmas Illuminations took place on Thursday 15th November, the photo gallery below aims to provide a gentle flavour of the lights and activities of the event. Scroll through the pictures to see the captured moments.
As the sun set, the activities started. The Royal Academy Jazz Quartet played a mix of musical melodies. Choirs from St Vincents School, Queen’s Preparatory School, St Marylebone School, Southbank School and Davies Laing Dick College performed their Christmas collections which included an age range of 4 to 18. Tony Moore compered and managed this musical extravaganza which included Miles Winter Roberts.
The special guests of the evening were Teatro who took to the stage and performed live to an enthusiastic crowd. The four singers then switched on the lights which brought the spirit of Christmas to Marylebone accompanied by snow flakes and fireworks.
Teatro were joined by Pudsey to promote the BBC Children in Need Appeal (Registered Charity No 802052). For further information on Teatro please go to www.teatromusic.com and for further information on Children in Need please go to www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey
Interspersed amongst the musical moments on stage Virgin Active stepped up to the mark by demonstrating and encouraging gentle warm up exercises to keep the spectators and visitors at a suitable temperature on a wintry night.
Many of the shops and restaurants held special Christmas offers and promotions to mark the beginning of this Christmas season. Mince pies, bbqs, glasses of sherry, champagne and mulled wine along with cups of hot chocolate were available from a variety of shops and Jive Nation encouraged people to take to the floor and were joined by people of all ages.
The Cabbages and Frocks market took place in St Marylebone Church Gardens bringing Christmas cheer and selected stalls specially for the occasion.
Father Christmas had a very busy time. The queue of children outside his Grotto was endless. They were entertained by Merlin as they waited for their turn to meet the man from Lapland with excitement and anticipation of their Christmas wishes coming true.
Westminster City Council, The Metropolitan Police and everyone who attended the event ensured that it was a very special evening in Marylebone Village.
Do make a note in your 2008 diary for the Marylebone Village Christmas Illuminations, the date of which is to be confirmed.
With thanks to everyone who took part in this unique festive day.
