My Independent Marylebone: John Bell & Croyden

Q&A with Alexander Johnston, General Manager at John Bell & Croyden.

Tell me about your business?
Established in 1798, John Bell & Croyden is pharmacy like no other. With over 12,000 square feet of retail space and over 10,000 products, we are truly a healthcare emporium. Offering luxury skincare, nutritional supplements, clinical services and medical equipment, John Bell & Croyden has something for everyone.

What makes your store special?
We have been in the west end for 222 years and we have a Royal Warrant as Pharmacists to Her Majesty The Queen. John Bell’s son, Jacob Bell, was also the founding father of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, so our brand has a long history of relevance to the healthcare world. There are artifacts all around our store that really bring the story of John Bell & Croyden to life.

What is your favourite item in your store?
We have over 10,000 products in our store, so choosing one would be difficult! If I had to pick, I would say the beauty room. Our facialist, Maria Di Chio, has magic hands!

What is coming up for the brand?
We launch new products all the time, so there are always exciting things happening in the store. We are very excited about launching Dr Dennis Gross facials in October!

What do you love about Marylebone Village?
I love the atmosphere, the sense of community and all the amenities that are available in the village. I love the Summer Festival and the Christmas lights – and I love the cheese shop.

What is your favourite memory in Marylebone Village?
Last year my colleague and I cycled from London to Paris with a team from Marylebone Village. That will always stay with me!

Where is your favourite place to eat?
Fischer’s restaurant. I love their schnitzel so much! It’s better than what I had in Vienna!
