International Women's Day: Wyse London

Q&A with Marielle Wyse, Creative Director and founder of Wyse London.

Tell us about your role and your business..

I’m Creative Director and Founder. I like to think I’m at the heart of everything within the brand and product.

What inspired you to choose a career in fashion?

I have always loved making my own clothes. As a child, my happy place was a fabric store with a trimmings department. I think creating a brand is an extension of this love of making clothes.

What challenges have you faced as a woman in your industry, and how have you overcome them?

I think as a woman I often downplay my own ability, doubt what I am able to achieve and am always pleasantly surprised when it works. I think men can often be more confident in business and stride forward more easily. In many ways I have had to learn to be more robust like that.

Based on your own experience, what advice would you have for women wanting to get into your industry, or start a business of their own?

I would say to just try... if you don’t try you will never know. Make sure it’s a passion though as it is very, very tough, so you have to know what you are trying to achieve and you have to pick yourself up constantly. But when it works there is no better feeling in the world!
